ENTER NEW CONTENDERS IN A NEW SPORT The North East has got a stake in Britain's newest motorsport. Two of the racing Ropners, Bruce and John, have joined with three other enthusiasts to buy and race Los Palmos, a shiny low-slung dragster powered by a supercharged V8 of six litres. Dragster? Look at the pictures and try to imagine travelling at 177 miles an hour half an inch off the ground and needing a parachute to stop you. That's dragging - and Los Palmos isn't the fastest by a long chalk. Many North - Easterners attended the First British Drag Festival last year, one round of which was held at R.A.F.
