Page Sixteen is headed "Spring '70" and is followed with the statement "Engine blew to bits (possible crankshaft breakage)" Bill had introduced an amount of nitro to the cars fuel load and the increase in horsepower took its toll on the ageing Dos Palmos powerplant. A new short motor was installed and everything was "made good". It was during this rebuild that the car was re-sprayed blue and became known as Asmodeus. The name Asmodeus is that of a mythical demon, often referred to as the "King of Demons" although earlier literature describes him as the demon of lust and "the demon of matrimonial unhappiness"!

The next entry is from Santa Pods first International meeting on July 11th & 12th. The cars first run off the trailer recorded an 8.85, its best run since its early days in the States. Bill didn't feature in the results for that meeting however as another weak link in the cars drivetrain made itself apparent. This time the spider gear in the rear axle broke and wrecked the lightweight magnesium diff housing. The axle was replaced with a steel unit with new crownwheel and pinion.

The NDRC meeting at Elvington on August 9th 1970 is the next entry. It was at this meeting that Clive Skilton became the first European racer to go under eight seconds with a 7.84. Peter noted that he blew his head gaskets in the process. Along with the new axle were some new M+H slicks which were giving "too much traction". Despite this setback (!) Bill made it to the final where he faced up against Dennis Priddle. The team oiled the new slicks and took the win with an 8.83 to Priddles 8.64!
