Page Eighteen begins with some details from Santa Pods BDRA Championship meeting on August 30th/31st 1970. Bill put in runs of 8.9, 8.8 and 8.35 seconds. Peter made a note of the fuel mixture for the 8.35 second run. It consisted of 50% petrol, 40% methanol and 10% nitro. Bill made it to the final where he met with an on-form Clive Skilton. Clive had repeated his seven second performance from two weeks earlier with a new low mark of 7.56. Clive took the win in the final after Bill pulled a red light. In Peters notes he wrote "Red lighted due to Skilton not coming to start line in legal 30 seconds". The next entry is a brief one from the Elvington Records weekend on October 3rd & 4th. Here a note is made on Bills successful attempt on the standing 500 metres world record, previously held by Tony Densham in the Commuter. Bills average time was 10.12 seconds with a speed of 110.52mph. The flying 500m world record also went to Bill and Asmodeus at this meeting. The next entry covers the first half of the 1971 season with the following; Various meetings at Santa Pod. Elvington 13 June at Elvington 10-11 July Santa Pod - push rods bust etc. 17-18 July Elvington - 17.4 secs! (This was a new British and European record for the standing start kilometer). The next entry is the final one in Peter's diary. The date is 31st August 1971 and the entry reads "Learned dragster in USA with trailer!" It is obvious from this entry that this news came as a bit of a surprise.
