Page fourteen leads with a cutting from the Sunday Sun newspaper headed; Dragster-Racing Group Splits Up. The text reads as follows: The North East's only dragster - racing syndicate has decided to split up, and are selling their American dragster, the fastest in Britain. The Croft Drag Racing Partnership of North Yorkshire company directors Bruce and John Ropner, Northallerton farmer Peter Godlee and Norman Barclay, a Glasgow stockbroker, was formed 15 months ago. Their 6-litre Chevrolet-engined dragster has reached a speed of 188 miles an hour in 8.8sec. over the quarter-mile, Its huge rear tyres which cost £20 each, have a racing life of only 12min. or seven drag meetings. Racing driver Jimmy Goddard, of Scorton, North Yorkshire, who is garaging the machine for the syndicate until it is sold said yesterday: "They are now turning their attention to power boat racing, which is all the rage now. Unfortunately drag racing does not seem to have caught on in this country."

There is now a big gap before the next entry in February 1969 when the car was taken to the Leeds Racing Car Show. During this time the car had been stored at various locations before ending up being sold to Keith Schellenberg. Peter still looked after the maintenence.

In October 1969 American serviceman Bill Weichelt collected the car. He had not purchased the car but made a deal to look after and race it over the 1970 season. Peter continued to play a part in the running of the car and describes how Bill stripped the car down completely over the winter, checking the motor, which was found to be in good order, before carrying out lots of re-chroming, re-spraying and polishing. The rejuvinated cars first engagements were filming for a Lamboghini advertisement in the Hyde Park Underpass and an appearance at the Paris Motor Show.
